Introducing Battlefield REDSEC Ranked

Earn your rank, bring home glory, become a Battlefield warlord.

Ranked Battle Royale Quads launches alongside Season 3 of Battlefield REDSEC, giving a shot of adrenaline to squads ready to prove their supremacy in an all-out fight for survival. With a dedicated Progression system, rewards and Leaderboards, this is the start of our community-led journey for competitive Battlefield.

For Season 3, Ranked Battle Royale will be a Battlefield Labs in Live experience: as we look to refine the competitive Battlefield vision before the eventual launch of the Elite Series, we are encouraging feedback through surveys during this first Ranked Season.

During Season 3, Ranked Battle Royale will be presented as a Battlefield Labs in Live experience. Players are not required to be a Battlefield Labs participant in order to play Ranked or receive rewards associated with the mode. “In Live” means that this is a work-in-progress feature that we’re building in the live version of Battlefield 6 and REDSEC with our community; this is not a limited time test, but rather the first version of a permanent addition to our game.

Here is everything you need to know about Ranked Battle Royale:

RANKED BATTLE ROYALE: THE BASICS {ranked-royale-the-basics}

All Ranks within Ranked Battle Royale from Unranked to Elite 250, the Rank that represents the pinnacle of competitive Battlefield REDSEC.

Just like a standard Battle Royale Quads, Ranked Battle Royale pits 25 squads against each other until one squad remains. While we gather feedback from the community, the core Battle Royale experience is the same; choose a Class, drop in with a Sidearm, loot better weapons, and outlast the competition with the help of Missions, Vehicles, Custom Weapon Drops, and a deadly circle that kills on impact. (Refer to this guide for more information on the basics of REDSEC Battle Royale, which is absolutely essential to playing Ranked.)

What defines Ranked are the systems that make it into a competitive experience: a Career Rank Gate, a dedicated Rank and Division system, exclusive rewards like Weapon Camos and Player Profile items, and Leaderboards.

First, you must be at least Career Rank 5 to join Ranked Battle Royale in its inaugural season. This is not only for new players to learn how to play REDSEC in less competitive modes, but also to prevent extremely fresh accounts from entering the mode.

After gaining access to Ranked Battle Royale, you will have a separate Rank - e.g. Bronze, Silver, Gold - and Division - five tiers within ranks, such as Bronze I or Bronze III - that correspond to your performance across Ranked Battle Royale Quads during a season. Increase your Division and Rank by earning Rank Points, accumulated through placements, kills, and assists.

Each Rank and Division also comes with its own rewards: one is given once you reach that Rank or Division initially. Another is given at the end of the Ranked Season, based on your final Rank earned during that specific season. You can show off these rewards in Battlefield REDSEC and Battlefield 6, regardless of whether you’re playing Ranked or jumping into a Gauntlet or a Multiplayer mode instead.

You can also see how you stack up on the global Leaderboard, featuring the Top 250 Elite players in REDSEC on each platform, through the Profile section of the main menu. These Leaderboards are separated by platform: Xbox, PlayStation, and PC have their own dedicated Global Leaderboard.

MATCHMAKING: PC AND CONSOLES

We understand the debate around “cross-platform” and “cross-input” play - in fact, as many of us around Battlefield Studios play competitive games, we know there are several answers on how to handle PC and consoles competing in the same game. This is one of the exact reasons why “Battlefield Labs in Live” is crucial to Ranked Battle Royale’s launch: to gather live data on competitive cross-platform play and rank bands specific to our REDSEC community.

For its inaugural season, Ranked Battle Royale will have separate matchmaking for PC players and Console players. A full squad of console players will only match up against console players. In the instance of a squad having a mix of PC and Console players, the squad will be placed in PC matchmaking.

MATCHMAKING: RANK BANDS

As for rank matchmaking bands, a squad can also only be composed of players at equal Rank or within two Ranks of the highest Rank player, and can only matchmake against squads in that similar Rank Band.

For example, a Silver Rank player can only be in a lobby - and squad up - with Rookie, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Rank players. At the extremes, Unranked players can play against or squad up with Unranked, Rookie, and Bronze players, while Elite Top 250 players will go head-to-head with their best-in-the-world rivals among the Top 250, Master, and Diamond.

Given these matchmaking thresholds and to provide the best competitive match possible, Ranked Battle Royale may involve longer matchmaking times compared to matchmaking times in a regular Battle Royale Quads experience.

CLIMB THE RANKS - PROGRESSION EXPLAINED

The Divisions within each Rank, shown in order from Division 1 through Division 5.. Before moving up (or down) a Rank, you first move within the Divisions of that specific Rank.

Ranked Points are determined by a formula based on your placement, kills, and assists in a match. Earn enough Ranked Points to get promoted to the next Division and Rank.

Each Ranked Match also costs a specific amount of Ranked Points to play as an Entry Cost; the amount of Ranked Points is determined on your Division and Rank (which may change as we continue to fine tune while it’s a part of Battlefield Labs in Live).

Playing a match as a Rookie - or Unranked - costs nothing; we want to encourage everyone to try out this new experience. Starting in Bronze, however, it will cost at least 10 Ranked Points to play a Ranked Battle Royale Match; this cost increases at each new Rank achieved, with major jumps in Rank Point cost from Platinum to Diamond and Diamond to Master. Play too many matches without earning enough kills, assists, and a high enough placement, and you’ll be demoted.

YOUR FIRST MATCH

Your Ranked Battle Royale journey starts with your first match as an Unranked player; this match is with and against fellow Unranked players alongside Rookie and Bronze competitors. This means that, if your squadmates already got a headstart in Rookie or Bronze, they can join you for your first match.

This Unranked match, as well as the matches you’ll play at the Rookie level, cost no Ranked Points to enter. Depending on how many Ranked Points you earn from placement, kills, and assists, you will begin your ascent up the Rank and Division ladder. Don’t expect to jump up to Master right away, however: one Ranked Play match cannot award you the thousands of Ranked Points needed to be considered the best in the world.

Expect your first Ranked Match to bring you from Unranked up to somewhere within the Rookie Rank Divisions. Even if you place 25th with zero assists and zero kills - granting you a grand total of 0 Ranked Points - you will get to Rookie Division 1 and earn your Career XP Boosts.

However, the better you place in combination with kills and assists, the more Ranked Points you will earn. In other words, it is entirely possible to jump from Unranked to Rookie Division 4 in your first match… But that comes with placing first with enough individual kills and assists to reach the single-match cap.

DEMOTION PREVENTION

Even the greatest players go down right off the initial drop, miss that critical shot, get caught between tank and full squad crossfire or, simply put, have a bad game.

Upon reaching a new Division within a Rank, you are given a set number of “Shields” that prevent you from immediate Demotion, or a Demotion from a bad losing streak after making significant progress. If you lose enough Ranked Points to normally get demoted, but you have a Shield in place, the Shield will prevent demotion and keep you at your current Rank and Division.

For Season 3, all Divisions in the Rookie through Silver Ranks will have one Demotion Shield, Gold through Diamond have two Shields, and Master has three shields. Elite Top 250 and #1 Elite, which are considered part of Master Rank, technically do not have demotion shields, as those ranks are based on accumulated Ranked Points compared to all other players rather than a Ranked Point minimum.

LEAVE PENALTIES

With Demotion Prevention in place, playing poorly is no excuse to rage quit.

When entering a match, you are expected to complete it regardless of your performance. If you quit out during a match, you will lose all Ranked Points accrued during that match and still be charged the Ranked Point match entry fee. In a future update, we will also implement sanctions for serial quitters.

THE SPOILS OF RANKED - LEADERBOARDS AND REWARDS

At launch, Ranked Battle Royale will have its own dedicated Leaderboard, accessible through the Ranked Hub  on your “Profile” (the last tab on the game’s main menu). This is where you cannot only see the Top 250 Ranked players, but also your own personal Ranked Points accumulated, Ranked Wins, and RP/Match ratio. The “Profile” is also where you can also access information about your Ranked Play progression, rules, and all Ranked rewards.

For some, the “pride” of knowing how you stack up against the competition is the reason why you compete, but everyone can enjoy the spoils of their hard work.

Ranked Battle Royale will include two sets of rewards, one for reaching a specific rank and division for the first time, and another at the end of the season. By design, we want everyone who plays Battle Royale to try the competitive experience, so the lower ranks - Rookie, Bronze, and Silver - have XP Boosts for you to use however you may spend them across Battlefield.

However, for those dedicated to becoming the best on the Battlefield, there are distinct Player Card items - Backgrounds, Titles, and More - as first time Rank and Division rewards, as well as Weapons Camos, including a diamond weapon camo, for reaching specific Ranks by the end of the season.

All these rewards can be used across Battlefield REDSEC and Battlefield 6, allowing you to show off your Ranked prowess in any Multiplayer, Battle Royale, Gauntlet, or Portal experience.

THE FUTURE OF COMPETITIVE BATTLEFIELD REDSEC: THE ROAD TO ELITE SERIES

This “Battlefield Labs in Live” experience is paramount to how we shape the future of Battlefield competitive play.

Already, we have plans to include sanctions for those who leave too many matches in a short period of time, as well as a penalty for being AFK (away from keyboard) during a match. We also will use this initial season to respond - and iterate lessons learned from - feedback about the matchmaking experience, progression, and the general Ranked Battle Royale experience.

Our Ranked Battle Royale development process will ultimately influence how we relaunch the Battlefield REDSEC Elite Series, as mentioned in our 2026 Roadmap.
