The Sims 4: Realm of Magic Has Arrived

And we’ve got the perfect beginner’s guide.

On this day, Simmers and Sages gather together to perform the savoriest of Spells, concoct perfectly precious potions, and find formidable familiars in The Sims™ 4: Realm of Magic*.

Spellcasters, unearth The Beginner’s Guide to the Realm of Magic, an ancient – albeit digital – time for aspiring Spellcasters navigating the world beyond the portal. Read on to find answers to many practical questions before your Sim tries their hand at practical magic.

Chapter 1: Making Magic Happen

Alright, young Spellcaster. Here are two ways to, you know, become a Spellcaster.

  1. Start from Create A Sim: Select the option through the “Add A Sim” button and off you go!
  2. Ask one of the three Sages in the Magic Realm to grant you the Right of Ascension. Sounds like a risk you’re willing to take, right? Here’s how to do it:
  • Travel to Glimmerbrook
  • Find the Magic Portal that will take you to the Magic Realm (eeeeek!)
  • Talk to one of the three Sages, who are designated by magic runes above their heads
  • Ask one of them how to use magic, and they’ll grant your Sim temporary Mote Sight
  • Walk around The Magic Realm and collect seven Motes a.k.a. Floating Purple Orbs
  • Once collected, return to any of the three Sages and Turn in the Motes – it’s like Spellcasting homework, but better!
  • The Sage will perform the Right of Ascension and your Sim will now be a Spellcaster

Chapter 2: Get in Spellcaster, We’re Going Shopping

Any good magic-maker needs items and supplies to level up their spells and potions. But, where do you find them? Casters Ally is the place for your Sims to purchase items that will assist them on their Spellcaster journey. There, you’ll find three shops, each with their own unique items that rotate each day. Let’s drink the Potion of the Nimble Mind and learn more about each shop, shall we?

  • Wands, Tomes, and Familiars: This shop offers your Sim unique wands each day for their Sim as well as Familiars that will help protect them from Death, as long as they are summoned. Players will also find Magical Tomes here, that can help start them off in building their Spellbook.
  • Brooms and Crystals: This shop offers your Sim unique brooms and crystals each day. Brooms can be used to get around the world in a timely fashion. The crystals will be a vital ingredient if your Sim wants to brew potions on the cauldron.
  • Potion Ingredient Shop: Having trouble finding a certain ingredient for a potion? Be sure to visit the potion shop. They sell everything, from death flowers to dragon fruit.

Chapter 3: Getting Familiar

Familiars are powerful entities that can protect your Sim from death and give them confidence. You can purchase a powerful dragon, wise owl, or elusive bunnerfly from Casters Ally. With the Familiar Orb in your Sim’s inventory, bind them to your Sim by clicking on the orb itself. Once bound, click on your Sim to summon them. Then name them whatever your magical heart desires!

Chapter 4: Well, Aren’t You Perky?

The more your Sim practices, the more Perks they’ll unlock. Read on to learn about different kinds of Perks.

The best perks for leveling fast:

  • Experimenter: This lets your Sim build Spellcaster XP much faster.
  • Spellcaster Socialite: This will allow your Sim to discuss Magic with other Spellcasters. Each social awards your Sim with a bit of Spellcaster XP allowing you to level up quickly.
  • Mote Hound: This grants your Sim permanent Mote Sight, giving them the ability to collect Magical Motes in the world. Your Sim can now Absorb the motes for Spellcaster XP.

The best perks for heavy potion brewing:

  • Blender Arm: A great early perk, it makes potions brew much faster.
  • Incredible Forager: If you are an Alchemist, you are also probably playing the gardening game. This means you receive extra harvestables from your plants.
  • Potent Potables: The last perk in the Alchemy track, it allows you to Hex your potions so they always result in the failure outcome of the potion.

The best perks for heavy Spell use:

  • Discharge: The early perk for a Spellcaster who wants to use a lot of Spells, making it possible for your Sim to drain their Spellcaster Charge to avoid exploding from overcharge.
  • Charge Control: This allows your Sim to cast more spells before they might overcharge.
  • Magical Resonance: Help your Sim avoid Death by Overcharge completely. They will still explode, but will no longer run the risk of actually dying as long as they are in The Magic Realm.

Chapter 5: Potion Commotion

What do these potions do, anyway?

  • Potion of Plentiful Needs: The potion maxes all the needs on any Sim who drinks it. Be careful not to consume too many potions at once, or you might get a curse!
  • Potion of Forced Friendship: Tired of grinding that Relationship Bar with Sims? This potion will be just the trick. The Sim that consumes this potion unlocks a new interaction called “Use the Power of Forced Friendship.” This will instantly max out a Friendly Relationship with any Sim.
  • Potion of Immortality: Whoever drinks this one will never die of old age.

Chapter 6: Do You Even Spell?

Here are some Spells to make your Sims’ lives just a little bit easier:

  • Copypasto – Copy any small object! Perfect for any potion crafter. Why harvest ingredients when you can just duplicate them?
  • Burgliate – Make mischief by swiping objects in the world. Combined with the Spectral Reach perk, your Sim will never be caught stealing again.
  • Duplicato – Sims can make a temporary copy of themselves and have them clean, cook, or even just socialize. Dev team, can we get this IRL?

And so ends the Beginner’s Guide to the Realm of Magic! We hope this “book” of spellbinding secrets helps your Sim on their quest to becoming the best Spellcaster in Glimmerbrook.
