Choosing Your Next Legend

June 16, 2019

YOUR NEXT LEGEND SHOULD OPEN DOORS

Whether you’re unlocking a new Legend or just trying to pick a new main, it should address a specific need: a gap in your rotation, a role your squad needs covered, or a fun playstyle you want to try.

Ask yourself:

  • How do I usually support my squad?
  • Where am I succeeding or struggling?
  • What’s my squad missing?
  • What playstyle is fun for me?

Those answers usually make picking a new Legend much easier.

Don’t chase the meta, a Legend who fits how you already play will be more useful than one that sits on your roster because a tier list said so.

If you want to boost your survivability

  • Lifeline: The most reliable passive revive in the game. Keeps the squad alive through fights that would end most others. Unlocked by default for all players.
  • Newcastle: Built around protecting revives under fire. Pick him to support a squad that goes down often.
  • Conduit: Fast Shield restoration without floor loot dependency. Strongest in sustained fights where healing items run dry.

If you want better rotation options

  • Valkyrie: High mobility and very strong squad repositioning Ultimate. Helpful when your squad struggles to reach the Ring in time.
  • Octane: High personal mobility with a squad-wide launch pad. Good pick for aggressive squads who want to push and reset fast.
  • Wraith: Personal escape tool with a squad-wide extraction option. Pick her if you find yourself in bad positions and need a reliable way out.

If you want to hold space more effectively

  • Caustic: Turns buildings into traps. Pick him when your squad wants to force enemies into bad engagements on your terms.
  • Wattson: A strong defensive Legend in sustained holds. Comes into her own in late-game scenarios where Ordnance and aggressive entries are constant.
  • Rampart: High sustained damage output from fortified positions. Pick her when your squad wants to own a lane and punish anything that pushes through it.

If you want to pressure enemy squads

  • Mad Maggie: Built to break static holds and flush enemies out of cover. Good against squads that fortify buildings and wait.
  • Bangalore: Smoke and artillery give the squad a push window on demand. Best when you need to create openings. Unlocked by default for all players.
  • Fuse: High area-denial output that forces movement. Helpful when you want to make holding a position feel dangerous for the enemy.

The Firing Range test

Every Legend is available to try in the Firing Range, so spend at least 5-10 minutes trying them out before committing to an unlock. Get a sense of their kit, particularly their Tactical and Ultimate. If the kit feels right after that test, it might be worth the unlock.

Do This Next

  • Write down what your current main does not cover.
  • Shortlist two or three Legends that solve that problem.
  • Pick the one that changes your options the most.
