Battlefield 6 kicks off a whole new era of high-intensity combat. Whether you are battling in intense infantry firefights, attacking enemies in jets, reviving teammates in the heat of battle, or driving a tank through a collapsing building, this is all-out warfare like you’ve never seen it before. Welcome to the world of Battlefield 6.

Here’s everything you need to know before you deploy, and what to look forward to when you hit the frontlines for the first time.

World of Battlefield 6

The year is 2027. The world is on the edge of chaos. After a high-profile assassination shocks the world, major European countries have left NATO, while the US and its allies grapple with the fallout.

A massive private military corporation with no fear, deep pockets and the latest tech, looks to fill the power vacuum. This army is Pax Armata.

What’s left of NATO is wounded and battered. But the remnants have formed a hardened alliance determined to put an end to this threat.

Welcome to Battlefield 6.

PLAY AS NATO: As key European powers withdraw from NATO, the world is left more unstable than ever before. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Egypt are here to defend what’s left, with an army of soldiers driven by duty and honor.

PLAY AS PAX ARMATA: This shadowy coalition is ready to capitalize on disruption, aiming to usurp the United States as the world’s leading superpower. Pax Armata is a massive private military corporation with deep pockets, the latest tech, and no government red tape. They are hellbent on using this once-in-a-generation opportunity to seize power.

Choose your class

Battlefield’s class system, encouraging you to fulfill a specific role in the fight, is back. New to the system are training options that unlock additional traits that are earned in battle, rewarding those who play the objective with an active ability to help turn the tide of war.

Battlefield 6’s deep customization system allows players to arm themselves with any weapon for any situation but each class shines when you take advantage of signature weapon sets that lean into your class role.

For those who wish to play with closed weapon loadouts, the option will be easily accessible as a Community Experience. Full XP progression will be available for that Experience as well.

Battlefield Combat Zones & Modes

COMBAT ZONES

Combat Zones are hand-crafted configurations within the maps that maximize quality under a variety of modes. For example, the Conquest version of Siege of Cairo would include the area used in the Domination version of the map. However, the placements of objects, how destruction is used, and other factors will differ when playing that same area in Domination.

The team has taken great care to ensure that Combat Zones feel notably different so that each playspace fits the mode you’ve selected when it comes to scale, intensity, and tactical options.

MODES - ALL-OUT WARFARE

All-Out Warfare is the trifecta of modes most closely associated with Battlefield’s iconic gameplay.

CONQUEST

Conquest is the home of iconic all-out warfare – where tanks, jets, and attack helicopters turn the tides of battle. Two teams fight to capture and hold multiple control points all over the map. Deplete enemy lives by controlling points and killing enemies. When a team’s lives hit zero, the battle’s over. Communicate, cooperate, take victory.

BREAKTHROUGH

In Breakthrough, the map is divided into sectors that players battle over one at a time. Attackers push the frontline forward. Defenders hold the line of battle. To secure a sector, attackers must hold all control points within it at the same time. Coordination is key–attacker lives are limited. The fight continues until attackers capture all sectors, or they run out of lives.

Tanks and ground infantry engage in a snowy mountain battle.

RUSH

Arm and defuse. A team of attackers and defenders battle for control of a series of Military Communication systems (M-COMs). Attackers have to plant explosives at each system and prevent defenders from diffusing them before they detonate. When all M-COMs are destroyed, the fight moves to the next sector. The match ends when all M-COM systems are destroyed, or the attackers run out of lives.

MODES - INFUSED WITH BATTLEFIELD DNA

Battlefield 6 is also launching with five modes outside of All-Out Warfare. These are a mix of modes that have been inspired by classics of FPS as well as a new mode called Escalation. All of these modes have been designed to be elevated by Battlefield’s fundamental design pillars: classes, squad-based gameplay, and a hell of a lot of destruction.

SQUAD DEATHMATCH

Grab a gun and squad up for a fast-paced, close-quarters, deathmatch. Four squads compete for victory with one simple objective: First to reach the kill target wins.

DOMINATION

A fast-paced, close-quarters, infantry-only fight for territory. Score points by capturing and holding objectives. First to reach the point limit wins.

TEAM DEATHMATCH

Pure infantry-focused, high-intensity combat. In TDM, the only objective is to take out the enemy. Most kills wins.

KING OF THE HILL

Get on the point and secure it. This close-quarters battle for territory happens fast. Control points move and cooperation is key.

ESCALATION

A brand new way to experience Battlefield’s genre-defining gameplay. From precise tactical moments to non-stop action, Escalation puts everything in a soldier’s arsenal to the test. Two teams fight to capture strategic control points. As the teams expand their territory, fewer and fewer control points remain, creating increasingly intense areas of combat. This battle for territory culminates in an all-out war, where both sides fight to control the last remaining points on the map.

Unleash Vehicle Warfare

Tanks, jets, and helicopters. This war’s just as much about mastering vehicles as it is about your weaponry.

If you’ve never gotten behind the wheel (or in the cockpit, or the helm), there are a few things rookies should keep in mind:

  • You can always practice flying solo before heading into battle in Conquest Initiation or Breakthrough Initiation.
  • You can use assisted controls and customize your vehicle in settings to fit your playstyle. Head to Settings > General > Controller Settings to turn on Helicopter Control Assists.

What to expect during your first match

Conquest Initiation and Breakthrough Initiation are every new recruit’s first step into ultimate all-out war. Same combat, same intensity, all set in a learning environment where new players (up to Level 15) can cut their teeth alongside bots.

What else is new in Battlefield 6

There’s so much to look forward to – most of it we’ll leave for you to discover, but here’s what we’re most excited about.

TACTICAL DESTRUCTION: As one of Battlefield’s most defining features, it was important for the team to figure out how to elevate the art of Destruction – both visually and as a game mechanic.

The answer is Tactical Destruction. In Battlefield 6, you will have more options to transform the environment to your advantage. Here’s some examples of what you can do with Tactical Destruction:

  • A wall blocking your way? Knock it down with a sledgehammer or blow it to pieces with C4.
  • Enemy squad firing on you from above? Take out the floor beneath them with a rocket and send them plummeting to their doom (or bring the roof down on their heads).
  • Drive your tank through whole buildings to create shortcuts for the rest of the team or devastate enemy positions.

The visual bar for Destruction has also been raised.

KINESTHETIC COMBAT SYSTEM: Battlefield’s new Kinesthetic Combat System is designed to give you more control over your mobility and the tactical options during the heat of battle. This includes actions to help optimize gunplay depending on the situation. These are all new options available for the first time in Battlefield.

  • Drag and Revive lets you drag a squadmate out of the firefight, while reviving them.
  • Peek and Lean lets you peek around corners to spy on the enemy without being exposed, utilizing this awareness to help plan strategies and get the drop on your opponents.
  • Combat Rolls give you a new maneuvering ability to limit fall damage and increase your chance of dodging enemy fire.
  • Mounting Weapons on cover allows you to steady your aim, decreasing recoil.
  • Hitch a Ride is a feature that expands how many players you can have on your vehicle beyond the available seats.

As part of the Kinesthetic Combat System, reliable recoil patterns and well-defined weapon ranges help players learn and react in real-time.
