WILD HEARTS™ Bestiary: Golden Tempest

WILD HEARTS™ is a unique twist on the hunting genre where technology gives you a fighting chance against fearsome beasts infused with the ferocious power of nature itself, known as Kemono. No one remembers why the Kemono began their rampage through a once prosperous Azuma. 

But hope arrives in the form of a formidable hunter, armed with deadly weapons and ancient technology, called Karakuri, that could turn the tide of battle. Take on these creatures alone or hunt with friends in seamless co-op.

Some travelers are wary of the wind. They're worried it might be a Golden Tempest that gives the wind its piercing howl. This terrifying creature has now been sighted in Azuma, migrating from a distant land. Far in the north, it's said there is a mysterious place known as the Golden Sea, where the sand stretches to the horizon in every direction. This is the homeland of the Aragane, or Golden Tempest. It’s a place where fools go in search of gold, never to return. This beast is the embodiment of the wind, which blows some to riches and others to their death.

Its powers come from the fusion of different natural elements – a strange mixture of tempestuous wind and precious flakes of pure gold. Its organs mysteriously produce the precious metal by compressing the air inside its body. As a rare creature that can create gold out of nothing, it is revered as a creature that brings wealth to those who see it.

Commanding the surrounding air, the Golden Tempest specializes in fighting by changing the direction of its own movement by blowing air out of the vents (stripes) located all over its body – allowing it, in a certain sense, to fly.

Its fighting techniques combine powerful melee attacks with the strength of a gale. It specializes in taking control of the battle by using air currents to change both its own and hunters’ positions and movement speed. Staying alert and preparing for fast close combat are your surest path to success when taking on this beast.

Failing that, you will face the Golden Tempest’s attacks at full force: paw swipes, bite strikes, claws, spinning and slams. Come within range of any of these attacks and you will pay dearly.

But even from a distance, the beast is daunting. Beware its swinging tail and wind blades if you want to survive the battle.

If you live to see the Golden Tempest turn into its enraged state (generating wind around its body before blasting it away) you will be a witness to the truly ferocious beauty of nature. Marvel at a sparkling tornado of sand and gold, then experience the terror of being pinned to the ground by that same force. Golden Tempests are an especially beautiful sight when in combat, clad in a golden wind, and for many, a sight they will take with them to the afterlife.

Use your weapons in combination with a wise selection of Karakuri to counter the Golden Tempest’s many avenues of attack. If this is still not enough, you may wish to consider something rather extreme, like a celestial cannon.
