His talking got him the attention, but his dogged wrestling backed it up and nearly won Chael Sonnen the Middleweight Championship over longtime divisional leader Anderson Silva. Chris Weidman’s time at the top of the Middleweight division was a gauntlet of Brazil’s best. From dethroning and defending against divisional GOAT Anderson Silva, solving the dangerous riddle of Lyoto Machida, followed by a first-round finish of the always ferocious Vitor Belfort at UFC 187 — Weidman worked for every title he earned.

It took Light Heavyweight kingpin Daniel Cormier less than a round to claim coveted champ-champ status, as a short punch off the break would send Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic reeling. Cormier would eventually become the first double-champ to defend both belts.

After tearing through the UFC with a five-fight undefeated streak, Darren Till faced wiley contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Following a close, tactical fight, Till emerged victorious and on the doorstep of a title shot.

Most assumed Derrick Lewis would get smothered by the dominant wrestling of Curtis “Razor” Blaydes. However, for the first six minutes of their bout, a mild-mannered kickboxing match took place — until Blaydes changed levels and met a vicious Lewis uppercut that sent him to the canvas cold.

The first-ever winner of The Ultimate Fighter, competing just before Forrest Griffin at the TUF 1 finale, Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez dispatched Kenny Florian with relative ease. This was the start of a 32-fight UFC run that saw Sanchez contend for a title, land in the UFC Hall of Fame, and cement his place as a legend of the sport.
