EA Speaks Out: #H8IsNotAGame

We are hosting EA Full Spectrum tomorrow to address the state of hate in videogames and the issues around the LGBT community in the gaming industry. We want you to join in on the conversation on Twitter with the hashtag #H8IsNotAGame. Our own COO Peter Moore, our EA community along with Maxis co-founder Will Wright and Washington Post and CNN Coorespondent Hilary Rosen shared why they feel strongly that hate is not a game.

Check out the video and then share your own thoughts on Twitter. We'll be live tweeting the event from @EAFullSpectrum.

Hate is not a game, But hate is paying $80 for something that doesn't work as advertised. Are the servers working yet?

This was the most frustrating launch I have ever experienced in my life. Whoever did Software QA on this game should be fired. The servers weren't stress tested. You guys beta tested for an hour. You should have let pre orders beta test it for longer than an hour at a time and you probably would have caught a lot more bugs. Maxis is a great company but I bet EA ****** this one up.

What about all the people with Windows 8 who bought it? They can't get refunds and the game won't work at all on Windows 8.

The game does run on Windows 8; I played it quite a bit on my Win 8 machine yesterday till the servers started acting up.

All the negative reviews of Sim City certainly made me hang on to my cash. Disappointed to see EA still sucking. I will never buy a game that requires me to be online to play. Such a waste for you folks who paid, sorry.

Agreed with the above comment. How can EA still sell that game as it isn't working. 60$ for nothing. Hopefully I took the cheapest one.

Hate in video games is out of control -- peops need to lose their anonomous status a little I think, it may slow it down. I was pleased to see that you can play sim city limited edition under your real name if you want. I think it should be required. I also think that developers need to ban accounts that spread hateful talk on their servers. Get involved, DO something!

I think the anonimity helps to protect gamers who might actually be subject to "actual" hate crimes. Calling someone "gay" is not a hate crime. It's freedom of speech. Just like I am free to say, I support gay rights, including the right to get married and share in all of the same rights that bond contains. What I don't support is this constant need for everyone to "WHINE" about essentially "everything." So, ... you got called "gay." Grow a pair and take pride in who you are! "That's right, and proud of it" would have been the simply way to shut them up. Holding conferences and rallys is not going to fix this issue. As long as we are all "free," you will always have to deal with other peoples opinions. DEAL WITH IT!

I would also like to add my concern over the SimCity server issue. This has happened multiple times on multiple occasions, not just with SimCity. Dead space, mass effect, and even battlefield this has happened. So is it wrong to say that thousands of people who bought SimCity, and can't even sit back and enjoy a relaxing sit down at the computer? Because of servers crashing and the game not even working correctly? And can't even enjoy their purchase? I agree with the first comments, this is almost absurd! I know online games from launch take up a lot of server space, but why just have it online? Why not a single player function as well? That would cut back on the server issue, people who wanted online can play online and people who wanted to play by themselves can also do that. This is just coming from a concerned gamer, who just wants to play.

I am very concerned over this trend of gaming company's. I play all of my games in a single play function. What happens if you go to any area that does not have a internet coverage? You threw $60.00 out the window because you can't play the game. EA really needs to look at this problem and recetify it; with the best possible scenario of allowing single play off-line.

Less worry about H8 and more worry about actually giving great developers time and room to do it right. Stop forcing DRM down everyone's throats - we've now paid $160 for an abysmal experience (so far). I've been around EA games since Archon on the C64 - there was a time when the company knew right from wrong.

You know i wonder how old all of you must be to post a comment about the games glitches on a topic about stopping hate. Ironic is it not. Every game in the history of the internet has had glitches. No game creator can or ever will be able to preemptively fix every bug they might encounter before it happens. Coding isnt a 100% science come to think of it no science is 100%. Point is, its only been a day. Internet games have always had issues, not to mention half of you probably cant run the game on your 2005 model computers screaming about it being a Game Developers fault. If you are unhappy with the game glitches go play something else for a while till its fixed. If you are the type of person who has a computer that cant even run Simcity 4, buy a up to date computer and try again. On a lighter note i do wish they had made a single player version. But i understand why they did not. Nothing is perfect, sooner you kids learn that the happier you will be. Oh and Vex lol at your comment about not ever buying another simcity game again. They make them like once every 5 years. Who cares that far in advance. Not i. Enjoy your life in your mothers basement.

"Glitches" constitute as a few hours of down time to correct the problem, such as correcting a machine with a bad stick of memory, a configuration that doesn't work, a server with a misconfiguration IP address, etc. ALL of these problems we're seeing are beyond "glitches". We're into 5 days, randomly I can't log into the server I HAVE to play on to keep my cities (I'm in Canada and have to play on a server in Europe?), random disconnects because nothing is announced that a machine is going to be down (They basically pull the plug on its users). NONE of what I write above here even starts to look at bugs within the game itself. I'm not talking about the "always-on" bug, or "Can't save locally" bug either.

"I'm in Canada and have to play..." Do you really think they setup servers in Antarctica too? Get a clue. They are just names for servers, not the physical location of the server. Or, maybe you can point me to the continent named "Test" too.

Sure some games didn't work at launch in the early 90s. But since then most companies have gotten much better and people now expect more. It is not okay for the third largest game publisher on earth to produce games to the quality standards of 20 years ago. They should be embarrassed that they are so bad at their jobs.

too bad they don't actually use the so called "beta tests" to actually prevent massive server collapse. But then again, if its good enough for every other game, its good enough for maxis, slap an ea sticker on it and they don't care. EA Satisfaction: Never Guaranteed.

They had 5 whole beta testers, but they were all banned for not reporting the server bugs...3 of them actually tried to report the bugs, but they kept getting a 20 minute timer instead of a bug report form. http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/01/22/simcity-betas-eula-contains-ea-wide-ban-clause-for-unreported-bugs/

I've waited almost a decade for a new Sim City, passing up other knockoffs along the way. Because I believed Maxis would deliver a breathe taking new Masterpiece. With the past couple of days, my ambitions have been crushed with HATE. I'm so upset that the 1st time I build my city, my game client crashes and -Poof!- my 1st ever city is gone..Forever. Now I'm just left with City restarts in my join game queue that holds no meaning. I wanted that first city to mean something. That's my HATE :(

Agree with much of what has been posted above. The only H8 I feel is for EA. Stop with the social concern BS and fix the game I spent $60 bucks for yesterday and after a long day at the office, came home to play but can't because EA sucks. I ignored all the negative crap I read on the internet about DRM, but I'm a believer now.

I just uninstalled my copy of simcity, and returned it via amazon. My first experience with a game that requires you to log into a server to play the game, and my last. the idea is absolutely ridiculous.

So H8 is not a game but how about Frustr8ed! I am one of the many sim city fans who are pissed off about the game that I was looking forward to playing this week only to have server problems. This is unacceptable. Why not make the game have an offline option and not only connected to the internet. Why not just stay connected to the internet for any updates instead of gameplay. I guess whoever thought this game out is a fcuknig genius!

I always felt origins servers were bad after playing numerous games . If i was not to excited about starting this game i would have waited for the price to drop to 20 dollars like i did with tiger woods.... I waited 2 days before joining simcity because i expected some server issues the first day. Well 3 hours later i am still hoping to be able to play before bed but i guess not...like every other game the few who r playing will be un catchable thanks origin

Hate is the emotion I feel when I am lied to about the working state of a product I paid $60+ dollars for. How could such a large company do such a terrible job supporting it's own titles? The reputation of EA and Origin is abysmal, it is universally despised in the gaming industry, and the SimCity launch is just one of the many reasons why.

SimCity: the last EA game I buy without off-line play available. Server problems are inevitable but, given that, not having an alternative to on-line play is inexcusable. May the fiercly fornicating fleas of seven million continuously copulating camels infest your crotch, EA.

Don't pull all this #h8isnotagame BS... hate is pretty much what we all feel because you delivered a POS game that people can't even log in!! So, SUCK IT UP and, please, FIX IT! At least be honest and tell us that you didn't expect the massive volume of conections and APOLOGIZE!
