The Wild First Week of the Next Generation

We’re only one week into a new era in gaming, and what a wild few days this has been.  I’d almost forgotten how intense console transitions are...almost.  The hardware hits shelves and anticipation turns to excitement; the reviews come in for the consoles and the games; our live service teams start working to optimize fan experiences; and we're actively listening to the community for their feedback.

We've launched our five next-gen titles in North America, but that's like having just cleared the first mile marker in a marathon…there’s a long ways to go.  Last week brought us the PlayStation 4, today we're excited to welcome the arrival of the Xbox One, and then comes the PS4 in Europe next week.

The critics agree that we are in top form to start this race on next-gen consoles – we've got the highest-rated games for fans of racing, sports and shooters — which is great news.  Lots of fans are playing, too — in the first five days, players logged five million online game sessions and 140 million minutes of gameplay across our next-gen titles on PS4.  All of this is a testament to talented teams and their commitment to taking risks and pushing hard for new innovation.  I'm proud of how we're embracing the next generation.

But we're not celebrating.  In fact, we're still working hard.  We have had our challenges with stability issues on Battlefield 4, and the DICE team is 100 percent focused on understanding and resolving the problems that some players have been having.  We won't rest until we get things fixed, so here are two things we're committed to doing while we work to get it right: 1) all players will get a Double XP bonus and a cool new piece of game content as a way of saying thanks for your patience, and 2) you'll get open and transparent communication with updates from us around the clock via the Battlefield 4 Control Room.

A quick word here on NBA LIVE as well.  Executive Producer Sean O’Brien just posted a thoughtful piece to NBA gamers that I would love for you to check out.  Plain and simple, we haven't gotten the kind of early feedback we had hoped for on this game.  I do think we have built a strong foundation, so we're accelerating a number of game updates to address your biggest issues, including improving the way the game teaches the new gameplay controls.  We promised to get back to top form with NBA LIVE, and we're committed to delivering on that.  We are in this for the long haul.

Gamers deserve great experiences when playing our games, and everyone here at EA will continue working tirelessly to make sure that happens.

Please bring ignite engine to PC! There's lots of people waiting for that to happen, and there's lots of people with powerful hardware as well.

*how do you create a lobby with friends to join a game together??, combined with PS4 problems this game is UNPLAYABLE. i am so frustrated i dont even want to play. I'm going back to ps3 GTA 5. This is the worst game launch i have ever experienced. $500 later, i currently have a brand new paperweight on my desk. No matter how many sun-shiny critics reviews you post, or claims of around the clock work to improve the game statements you post, the bottom line is your game quality is abysmal

How did anyone in EA or these critics around the world etc not say anything about NFS Rivals poor 30 FPS ?? It is not smooth gameplay , choppy , glitchy even - bloody hell wake up and go outside and realise just how many pc owners have medium to top spec computers which can easily run NFS Rivals beyond this poor 30fps cap - If this is not patched to fix it this game im sure will nose dive very fast ( all over the web for LOTSof unhappy owners ) - v unhappy & disgusted !!

Ohh I have to say whoever reviewed NFS Rivals highly with this **** 30 FPS cap in place is obviously kissing some corporate *** and is far from being honest - where the hell are honest reviews and this - we wont rest until we get things fixed - FFS the game should never have had this frame rate cap !!!! ruined a possibly legendary title here - No other racing game i know of is this restricted - no Indie titles - NONE - your programming team need a good *** kicking for this **** up !

As gamers and consumers of the EA product we all enjoy being included on the inner workings and plans of the developer and publisher post launch as you are starting to do now. Acknowledging issues goes a long way and can help garner trust and build a relationship with the community that supports you with our wallet. One upsetting trend as of late seems to be how EA is rushing titles to market that are NOT ready for a launch and this is greatly affecting consumer experience and sales...

Stop pushing out games that are clearly not ready for launch, you have a loyal fan-base (at the moment) that would rather wait for a finished product, instead of the bug/problem ridden games you are currently releasing. I'm getting a PS4 next week with BF4 and if things don't improve drastically, it'll be my last EA game! Thanks you.

I loved Bf3 so much on xbox right from the start and played the life out of it that I thought I'd move up to what battlefield was designed for and went out and spent over 2k on a PC so you might understand my frustration when each game crashed and the countless other problems. So far I've only clocked up over 40 hrs and have been very disappointed so far. That being said I like the fact we the community are getting feedback on the goings on, keep at it and get the game fixed. Things r improving

Since last gen I've been FORCED to assume your QA doesn't exist. Which is why I've vowed to never again be an early adopter of anything concerning the video game realm, including the devices they're played on. Which has killed most of my love for gaming, that I used to have. EA/DICE have once again shown the folly of release ASAP, patch later. Way to kill any sort of confidence in your products, EA.

Andrew Wilson CEO = pull your finger out and get your head out of the clouds and pull rank and get these problems fixed - I agree with the above - no Fan base / No loyal customers = no nice shiny company car for you and perks etc = ohh also means drop in shares / loss of employees , lack of professionals willing to be associated with EA = decline in EA as a company all because you all forgot you make games ( that should run properly ) for US to buy - without us - Game over !!!!

It is wonderful to see EA and DICE stepping up to the plate and acknowledging the short comings of the BF4 this far. As a loyal fan of the Battlefield Franchise, it has become difficult to convince new players to start playing and to keep the ones that are playing from quitting. This release was very disappointing and extremely frustrating at times. Things like the One Shot Kill Bug needs to be fixed quickly. The double XP and content are a step in the right direction for customer service.

BF4 release = killjoy. I don't understand how something with such potential would be shot in the leg by it's own creators/company before it could even take off. Please think twice before releasing too early again. It will forever impact your customers trust for you.

This may be long but here goes, ENOUGH WITH THESE ******* CONSOLE PORTS, now that we are on this topic, I've been playing BF since 2005, Started on BFV, ended up buying all the BF's, competed in all of them and it was great fun, until you started ignoring the PC community and making games for consoles, thats cool, but when you change the whole game too just tiny *** maps, infantry only gameplay, no more mod tools, paid content for maps? competing with Call of Duty....LOL? Give PC its own version

PT2 Then look at something like BF2, and make a game where NOTHING caters too noobs, everything should be skill based, if I'm better at someone at something, I should always prevail since I can outplay them, those days are over with noob coated ****** *** console ports designed for 10 year old call of duty players. DONE

the controls on the iPad air BLOW! half the time you think you're engaging the toggle, and your finger's about three inches away. oh well.... RR3. how hard is it to write code to boot speeders immediately. there #1 status on the leaderboards is a smack in the face to your code writers.

Dear EA. stop rushing games out before they are finished. 5 game on 5 platforms doesn't count as a success if the game is unplayable, needs more than 1 patch update on all 5 platforms. Please take your hand out of BIOWARE/ DICE's *** and let them tell YOU when the game is ready. Andrew Wilson, would you kindly quit YOUR job before your company goes under and all of the developers lose theirs? GIVE YOUR DEVELOPERS MORE CONTROL. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR COMPANY.
