Title? Program Manager Intern
School? Harvey Mudd College
Did you always want to work in the tech industry?
I just graduated from Harvey Mudd College with a B.S. in Mathematics, and I plan on completing my M. Sc. in mathematics this fall at Claremont Graduate University through the 4+1 accelerated program. I’m originally from Wenatchee, Washington, and prior to this internship, I had never even visited the Bay Area. Living in San Francisco this summer has been such a huge and exciting opportunity for me, and I can honestly say that this has been the best summer I’ve ever had!
For the past ten years, I was planning on pursuing a PhD in Mathematics or Statistics. However, after some introspection and phenomenal mentorship, I realized I wanted to work in the tech industry. After talking with some of my mentors and peers, I discovered the profession of Product/Program Management, and completely fell in love. My strong desire to apply my technical skills in an interdisciplinary setting, while still getting to work with people from a variety of backgrounds, fit perfectly with everything I had heard about being a PM. I dreamt of being able to explain technical concepts to those who may not necessarily have the same technical background, and as a PM, I get to do just that.
As a PM at Electronic Arts, I have had the chance to work with countless teams from around the world. It is amazing to see the collaboration of so many people to get a feature out to production. If I were to give one piece of advice to any prospective EA interns, it would be to act with fearlessness. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to accomplish so much in my short time here, but I would not have been able to do it without jumping into problems even when I wasn’t sure what I was doing. Due to my recent career plan changes, I had never done an internship until now (I had done summer research instead). But by fearlessly throwing myself into my projects, and not being afraid to ask questions and ask for help from my incredible Program Management team, I was able to accomplish more than I would have ever dreamt I was capable of.
Tell us something we don't know about you.
Don't scare me- I have an amazing horror movie scream! I was even asked to be part of a Universal Studios Sound Effects show.
