Bonjour! My name is Gabriel and I grew up in Montreal, a multicultural city bursting at the seams with creativity, which I fell in love with at a young age. Being surrounded by artists my whole life, I always knew I wanted to work in entertainment. I completed my college in film studies and had the chance to work on a couple of minor movie sets before making a career switch to video games, which always were been my biggest passion. Having my dad translate to me in French the dialogues of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past as I was playing is still one of my fondest video game memory from my childhood!

At the time, the Ubisoft Campus (now rebranded as ADN Campus) was offering a one-year course in level design which I completed in 2010. A few weeks after graduation, I was hired at Eidos-Montreal to work on the reboot of Thief. I went on to work on titles such as Assassin’s Creed 3 and Deux Ex: Mankind Divided and I never looked back!

Getting Your Start with EA

I had just finished working on DX:MD when I first heard of a new EA studio opening in Montreal, with Jade Raymond at its helm. As if the news was not exciting enough as it were, it was announced that the first game developed at EA Motive would be a Star Wars game! “Say no more!”, I told my friend at the time; I knew this was an opportunity I would not want to miss for anything. After a few phone calls and two visits at the studio, I was hired as a level designer on the next installment of Battlefront!

Working at EA

Honestly, I can’t say I was not anxious about leaving a studio where I worked for 5 years and the challenges that represented. But thanks to the team here at Motive, the transition has been very smooth and I am already feeling right at home! We are a team made of developers of so many different backgrounds with such a varied range of expertise, all very motivated to work on a Star Wars game; all that makes for an inspiring workplace. Also, EA Motive is located in a beautiful building downtown Montreal which plays a big part into making coming to work pleasant to me!

EA’s Impact

I had imagined how joining EA and playing a role in building its new AAA studio in Montreal would be thrilling but my adventure within the company so far already went beyond my expectations. It feels like you’re a part of a big family where everybody is dedicated to create the best games we can. Joining Motive, I was not used to work in such a positive and respectful environment. People here introduce themselves to each other casually, we hold a lot of activities and team-bonding events, which makes coming to work very fun on a daily basis. To me, it’s invaluable how EA cares for its employees to thrive within the company as human beings and not only as “game makers.”

Whether you just graduated from school or you want to make a career change, EA has so much to offer! What’s more to like than developing great game franchises, in an awesome work environment surrounded with talented and motivated colleagues?
