Title: Software Engineer II

Organization: Technology

Location: Redwood Shores

Who I Am

I graduated from University of California, San Diego in 2013 with a degree in Computer Engineering. I am a former new graduate and current software engineer at Electronic Arts. Aside from my interest in computer science, I am into cars and I love basketball. I play basketball at our awesome EA indoor gym with coworkers every week and it has helped me improve my game substantially.  I like to think that I am a charismatic, yet chill, person.

What I Do

As a software engineer on the data team, I am responsible for keeping our data pipelines flowing every day. I am here to resolve any issues that may arise due to problems with our infrastructure. I also try to find new ways to optimize and improve the performance of our current architecture. I research and provide ideas and critiques on new architectures that are being designed. I also develop software that either improves our infrastructure or help improve and add new avenues of where our data may flow.

One thing that I was able to do at EA was participate in our software engineering guild. This was a guild where software engineers at different levels ranging from new engineers (like myself), to directors, to vice presidents come together and solve problems that are present at EA. This was an amazing experience, as I was able to contribute to the betterment of the organization and also bring back that knowledge gained and share it with my team.

What is My Day?

On a typical day, I wake up bright and early ready to work. I arrive at the office and start checking emails or any tickets that arise. I continue working on my current projects, which generally involve a lot of research and collaborating with my colleagues. Thanks to working with some of the best engineers, I learn and grow as an engineer myself. Depending on the day, we usually have pick-up basketball games at EA which I attend in the evening to play with other awesome EAers. This allows me to clear my head after a day of work and converse with other people around the organization I don’t normally see.

Where Am I Going?

It’s been almost two years at EA, and I am currently working with an amazing team. Though I one day want to become CTO and found my own startup, I think EA has given me the skills and tools to continue to grow and one day fulfill these goals.
