# **How Coach Level Progression Works in Madden 27 Franchise**
## **Choosing Your Coach**

The first step is selecting your team. For this example, we&#39;re starting a rebuilding franchise with the New York Jets.

Next, you&#39;ll decide whether to use the team&#39;s real-life head coach, Aaron Glenn, or create your own custom coach. If you create one, you&#39;ll choose between Development Wizard, Defensive Genius, or Offensive Guru.

Your selection matters because it determines your starting ability stack. 

**Every coach begins between Level 1 and Level 50**, with new coaches starting at Level 1. Since I selected Defensive Genius, I begin with defensive-focused abilities, but you&#39;ll unlock plenty of additional abilities as you level up.
## **Coach XP, Levels &amp; Franchise Points**

Everything revolves around earning Coach XP.

Coach XP is earned by completing objectives throughout your franchise. Every time you level up, you&#39;ll receive Franchise Points, which are used to unlock new coach abilities or upgrade existing ones.

Madden 27 also introduces a tiered ability system. Some ability tiers are unlocked by purchasing upgrades with Franchise Points, while others you can unlock once you reach a specific coach level.

These abilities aren&#39;t limited to offense and defense either. You&#39;ll also unlock upgrades for:

Player Development

Staff Management

Scouting

Wear &amp; Tear

On top of that, your Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, and Trainer each have their own progression system with separate levels and abilities. Building a strong coaching staff is just as important as improving your head coach because every member contributes to your team&#39;s long-term success.
## **Career Milestones, Seasonal Goals &amp; Weekly Objectives**

The easiest way to track your progression is by heading into Coach Central.

Here you&#39;ll find Career Milestones, Seasonal Milestones, and In-Game Goals.

Seasonal milestones reward Coach XP and sometimes Franchise Points based on your performance over the course of the season.

You&#39;ll earn rewards for things like:

- Total wins
- Passing touchdowns
- Rushing touchdowns
- Sacks
- Turnovers forced
- Points allowed
- Third-down defense
- First downs
- Overall team performance


Career milestones reward you for accomplishments across multiple seasons. Your first career win, playoff appearances, conference championships, and eventually Super Bowl victories all provide additional XP and Franchise Points.
## **The Fastest Way to Earn Coach XP**

Weekly In-Game Goals are the quickest and most consistent way to level up your coach.

Every single game presents opportunities to earn extra XP.

Winning the game alone awards 200 Coach XP and four Franchise Points.

From there, additional XP comes from:

Passing yards

Rushing yards

Touchdowns

Defensive performance

Avoiding turnovers

Playing disciplined football

Think of these as mini seasonal milestones that reset every week, giving you constant opportunities to earn more experience.
## **Your Coaching Staff Levels Too**

One feature many players overlook is that your coaching staff progresses alongside you.

Your coordinators and trainer have their own:

- Levels
- Milestones
- Abilities
- Weekly goals


As they improve, they&#39;ll unlock stronger abilities that directly impact your team&#39;s performance. Building an elite staff becomes a huge part of developing a successful franchise.
## **Game Example**

To show this system in action, I jumped into the Jets versus Giants preseason game using Key Moments.

After returning to Coach Central, several weekly goals were completed:

- Win the game
- Four passing touchdowns
- Zero fumbles
- Zero interceptions
- Zero penalties
- Hold opponent under 200 passing yards
- Record four sacks


Those completed objectives translated directly into additional Coach XP.
## **Level Up Rewards**

After advancing to the next week, the rewards screen showed exactly how much progress we made.

We earned 520 Coach XP and advanced from Coach Level 3 to Level 4.

The game also displays your completed weekly goals, total progression, and any newly unlocked ability tiers.

You can also visit your Ability Loadout to check whether any existing abilities increased in tier or if entirely new abilities became available after leveling up.

**Let&#39;s go over advanced tips to level up your coach and build a successful franchise in Madden 27.**

The first decision starts before you even enter your franchise. At the **Choose Team** screen you&#39;ll see your team&#39;s NFL ranking, franchise status, salary cap space, and overall situation. Use that information to build a long-term plan instead of picking abilities randomly.

For example, if you&#39;re using the Bears, they already have their franchise quarterback. They don&#39;t need a Development Wizard. Instead, I&#39;d build around their strengths and choose an **Offensive Guru** to maximize Caleb Williams and the offense.

The Jets are completely different.

They have plenty of salary cap space, but they don&#39;t have a franchise quarterback and realistically aren&#39;t winning a Super Bowl this season. We’re building for the future as early as next year.

That&#39;s why I selected the **Development Wizard** coach.

I want my young players improving as fast as possible while I spend my Franchise Points investing heavily into scouting because we already own three first-round picks next year.

Finding our franchise quarterback is priority number one.
## **Coordinator Strategy**

Your coordinators should support your long-term vision.

Our defensive coordinator already has several player development abilities, including Cornerback Practitioner and Safety Practitioner, which increase training XP for those positions.

He even unlocks additional Focus Players later in his progression.

Those abilities fit exactly what we&#39;re trying to accomplish, so I&#39;m keeping him.

The offensive coordinator is another story.

Most of his abilities focus on running the football. Eventually we&#39;re drafting a rookie quarterback, so I want an offensive coordinator built around developing quarterbacks and improving the passing game.

So we&#39;re going to fire him and look through the available staff.
## **Hiring Better Coordinators Based Off Your Franchise Situation**

Right away OC Thomas Peters stands out in this rebuild.

He has **QB Practitioner**, increasing quarterback training XP, **Head of the Class** for extra coaching XP, plus abilities like Blitz Buster, Dr. Dot, Play Fake Magician, and several passing-focused upgrades.

Everything about this coordinator supports our long-term goal.

That&#39;s exactly the type of hire rebuilding franchises should prioritize.
## **Franchise Points &amp; Coach XP**

Now we need Franchise Points.

The fastest way to earn Coach XP is simple...
## **Win football games.**

Every victory earns Coach XP, can possibly unlock new abilities, and gives you more Franchise Points to invest into coaching and scouting.

Once you&#39;ve unlocked abilities, don&#39;t forget to equip them in your Weekly Load out.
## **Weekly Training**

Training is just as important.

Since we&#39;re rebuilding, almost all of my Focus Players will be young players that need development.

If you don&#39;t want to manually play training every week, just delegate it to your GM.

You&#39;ll still receive the rewards.
## **Playing Games Efficiently**

Because the Jets aren&#39;t contenders yet, I don&#39;t necessarily want to play every snap.

I&#39;ll usually play the moments.

Build an early lead...

Then simulate until something important happens.

Late-game drives, turnovers, or one-score games are worth jumping back into.

Winning still matters, even during a rebuild.

Every win means more Coach XP, more Franchise Points, and faster progression for your coaching staff.
## **Week One Scouting**

One of the most important parts of your rebuild happens during Week One.

Build your draft board.

Hire your scouts.

Assign every scout to the correct region.

This is your only opportunity to completely restructure your scouting department.

Since quarterback is our biggest need, every scouting decision revolves around finding our future franchise QB.
## **Hiring Scouts to Support our Quest for the Franchise QB**

None of our current scouts specialize in quarterbacks, so we&#39;re replacing them.

Fire the lower-rated scouts and hire quarterback specialists whenever possible.

Even if they&#39;re only one or two-star scouts, having positional expertise is far more valuable than scouting the wrong position.

Once quarterback is covered, I move on to cornerback since that&#39;s another long-term need for the roster.

Now we&#39;re positioned to maximize all three first-round picks.
## **Long-Term Rebuild**

For this example I&#39;m actually going to simulate the rest of the season.

Normally I&#39;d play more games, but with three first-round picks I actually want a high draft selection.

We finish 4-13...

Level 6 as a coach...

And own one of the top picks in the draft.

Exactly what we wanted.
## **Conclusion**

The initial goal of this rebuild was to level up as quick as possible. But remember, every franchise team situation is different. 

For the Jets, it was creating the best possible situation to draft and develop the franchise quarterback.

A contender should invest differently than a rebuilding team.

Understand your roster...

Choose coaches and coordinators that match your long-term vision...

Win games whenever possible...

Invest your Franchise Points wisely...

And you&#39;ll level up your coach and build a championship franchise much faster in Madden 27.
