It's Officially Madden (Pre-)Season
With all 32 teams in the final days of training camp, another annual football tradition is back: the Ratings Reveal for EA SPORTS™ Madden NFL 27.
Over this past week, we’ve seen NFL fans and experts, both in our community and beyond, follow every update to our Ratings database, adding it to conversations about the greatest athletes in the sport today. For some, this week was spent anticipating how a new free agent or draft pick adds to their favorite team. For others, it was Franchise and Superstar Mode planning season. And although an overall (OVR) rating doesn’t tell the full story, it does set the stage for another great football season, both on the real gridiron and all levels of the Madden NFL Community.
The entire ratings database is searchable now on our website here. However, if you just want the highlights, here are a few headlines to consider as you head to training camp, prepare the tailgate menu for Week One, or see how the community is taking in Ratings Reveal Week:
Inducting The 99 Club Launch Class Of ‘27

As we reflect on the 99 Club, remember that it’s not exclusive, nor set in stone. Athletes like Puka Nacua, Jahmyr Gibbs, Micah Parsons and Christian Gonzalez missed the cut at launch, but are among many honorable mentions that the Madden NFL community expects to overcome any doubts this upcoming season.
However, as it stands at launch, Madden NFL 27’s 99 Club includes six players: three first-timers, two repeats, and one man whose defensive force made him worthy of a three-peat.
Myles Garrett earned his third induction into the 99 OVR Club by breaking the single-season sack record with 23 during the 2025 season. Adding “Best NFL Player” to his two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and five first-team All-Pro accolades, some feel this Deacon Jones Award-winner should be rated at 100 OVR, but Madden NFL ball-knowers may recall that launch rating was long retired after the turn of the century. With that said, he is rated above 90 OVR for eight straight Madden NFL editions - and six straight above a 95 OVR - thanks to his position-leading Strength, Tackle, Power Move, and Block Shedding statistics.
On the other side of the ball - and the country - Josh Allen returns to the 99 Club, which marks five straight games at 90+ OVR. As the highest rated QB in the game, Allen owns the #1 Thrown on the Run Rating (98) and #2 Throw Power Rating (98), based on the ridiculous plays he’s made last year that sent the Bills Mafia through tables with joy,
The other back-to-back 99 OVR Club member is Bengals Wide Receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Fans already knew how incredible the Burrow-Chase connection was back in 2020 under the Superdome lights. In Madden NFL 27, his 5th straight 1,000 yard receiving season with 125 targets translates into the highest Release, Deep Route Running, and Jumping ratings among all Wide Receivers. As for his teammate Burrow, he comes in as the #3 QB with this position group’s top Thrown Under Pressure and Mid Accuracy ratings, so get ready for plenty of Post hot route calls to Chase online.
New Inductees
In addition to the returning 99 Club members are three new inductees that made a significant impact during the 2025 season:
First is Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl Champion Jaxon Smith-Njigba, tying Chase for the highest rated WR in the game. For the Seahawks, Smith-Njigba was a nightmare matchup for corners last year given his ability to create separation and maintain textbook route running form. In Madden NFL 27, he’s maxed out in medium route running with 97 ratings for short and long routes, which combines with nearly-perfect catching, catch in traffic, and spectacular catch ratings to potentially force double-coverage.
Another receiving threat worthy of 99 OVR is Arizona Cardinals Tight End Trey McBride. The former three-sport high school athlete had the most alignments in the slot among all players last season, where he put up his best receiving numbers with over 120 receptions and 1,200 receiving yards. As the first 99 OVR Tight End since Travis Kelce in Madden NFL 25 (2024), McBride will lead this position group in Catching, Catch in Traffic, Short Route Running, Medium Route Running, and Release.
Finally - and arguably the most notable addition - Quarterback Matthew Stafford earns his first 99 OVR Rating after eighteen seasons in the league. As he continues to climb the all-time passing yards leaderboard, Stafford’s veteran pocket presence granted him a perfect Throw Accuracy Short Rating and top marks across all accuracy stats, as well as a 98 rating in Toughness. Like the Philadelphia Eagles last year, Stafford’s Los Angeles Rams are the only team with two 99 OVR rated players, which led them to the top of Madden NFL 27 team ratings…
Top Team Rating Risers And Fallers Since Madden NFL 26 Launch

Up seven OVR points year-over-year, the largest increase across all NFL teams, the Los Angeles Rams are the #1 team in Madden NFL 27 with a 91 OVR. Both their offense and defense are rated as the best in the league, so on paper, the initial Madden NFL 27 ratings have them as the team to beat.
The Super Bowl LX champion Seattle Seahawks rank third in most improved, up four OVR points year-over-year, good for top-10 tied with the Houston Texans and Chiefs. However, the second-best OVR riser among all NFL teams has not made the playoffs since 2020, but this year might just be their year: the Indianapolis Colts are up four OVR points since Madden NFL 26, good for second-best in the AFC South.
The Colts’ offense ties the Seahawks, Falcons, and Buccaneers thanks to a ground game led by Jonathan Taylor, who maintains a 96 OVR rating from the final months of Madden NFL 26. Their defense also has some bright spots, particularly with defensive tackle (DT) Adetomiwa Adebawore. Yes, DeForest Buckner is the team’s highest defensive player with an 91 OVR, but Adebawore, who ranks 5th OVR among Colts DT with seven starts last season, boasts an 89 Speed, the fastest among all DTs and the best speed rating for any player weighing above 280 pounds.
Unfortunately for the majority of the league, Ratings Reveal was bulletin board material day with a net decrease in OVR since the start of last season. Those teams include the Miami Dolphins, who were among our top-five teams at Madden NFL 26 launch and enter Madden NFL 27 with a 74 OVR. But as a reminder, ratings do not tell the entire story: let alone the evasive De’Von Achane at 88 OVR with solid offensive lineman Aaron Brewer (90 OVR Center) and Patrick Paul (80 OVR LT), the Dolphins are the youngest team entering the 2026 NFL Season.
Combined with their Draft Picks for the next two seasons, the Dolphins could be a good Franchise Mode pick and if they can prove the pundits and their initial rating wrong this season, their 74 OVR can rise to their potential.
The 2026 NFL Rookie Class Get Rated

College Football’s best are now in the league, but how do their skills adapt from Saturdays to Sundays? After living in their own 99 Club and at the top of the College Football 26 ratings, the highest-rated Madden NFL 27 Rookies sit in the low-80s to high-70s.
What’s New On Offense
Only one offensive player, Cardinals Running Back Jeremiyah Love, cracks 80 OVR at an 82, above his teammate Tyler Allgeier who ranks at 81 OVR. As that running back room shapes out in Training Camp, Love leads the pack as the Elusive Back with the highest Speed, Acceleration (tied with Trey Benson), and Agility ratings. Meanwhile, Allgeier leads all Running Backs in the game with a 99 Carrying rating, which is well deserved after four straight seasons for the Falcons with zero fumbles.
As expected, Fernando Mendoza leads all rookie quarterbacks with a 74 OVR rating, one point above his “step brother” Kirk Cousins. That QB1 competition continues to heat up in the pre-season, and the ratings tell a story of two Field Generals: the younger Mendoza brings the raw physical talent to extend plays, as well as the second-best throw power rating among rookies behind the New York Jets’ Cade Klubnik. As for the veteran Cousins, he boasts better abilities throwing under pressure and to medium routes, with his other ratings being close to what Mendoza could offer the Raiders in his rookie season.
Within the top-10 highest rated players are top-10 draft pick offensive linemen Spencer Fano on the Cleveland Browns and Francis Mauigoa on the New York Giants. Mauigoa joins a solid line on paper: veteran tackles Andrew Thomas, the #1 OVR rated athlete for the G-Men, and Jeremaine Eluemunor will show this power guard the ropes of great pass protection for gunslinger Jaxon Dart and contact-craver Cam Skattebo.
Fano has his own highly-rated teammates with Center Elgton Jenkins and former Texans Tackle Tytus Howard, who both earned respect with solid all-around Pass Blocking ratings. The choice of the Browns QB1 will be yours first in Madden NFL 27, but regardless of who signal-calls in Week 1, there is some serious opportunity to grow Fano into the next Hall of Fame Tackle.
Immediate Contributors On Defense
On defense, the Cowboys 11th overall pick Caleb Downs slots alongside Jeremiyah Love as the top-rated Rookie. His awareness and physical presence put him at the top of the mock boards for a team needing improvement on defense. Combined with the Cowboys’ new additions in former Cardinals Free Safety Jalen Thompson and former Packers Defensive End Rashan Gary, along with fifth-year veteran DaRon Bland, this secondary is ready to read offenses like a book with solid play recognition ratings across the board.
The rest of the top ten is full of a loaded edge rushing class led by 2nd Overall Pick - and third-best rated rookie - David Bailey of the New York Jets. At 6’ 3”, 251 lbs with a 4.5 second 40-yard dash, he’s poised to be a problem in the AFC East. Before he plays a single down, however, he’ll make noise in the game with fellow speed rusher Will McDonald IV, should you decide to lead the Jets back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1969.
Sliding outside of his expected pick, Rueben Bain Jr. of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is rated as the 4th best rookie at 80 OVR due to his All-American resume. Demonstrating explosive power that many thought would land him in the top-10 on Draft Night, Bain Jr. is ready to rip through offensive lines with 90 Acceleration, 89 Hit Power, and several 80+ ratings in Block Shedding, Power Moves, and Pursuit.
Then there is the Giants’ other top-ten draft pick, Arvell Reese, a versatile menace to a solid defensive core. Listed as a Will Linebacker, but expected to line up as an Edge Rusher, Reese presents a nasty combination of Speed, Tackling, and Pursuit ratings. If you’re up to the task of Giants General Manager, shifting him around with Brian Burns, Tremaine Edmunds, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux will make for a fun - and relatively young - defensive unit.
And let’s not forget Mr. Irrelevant, Red Murdock. Behind veteran presence Alex Singleton, this middle linebacker presents great raw physical abilities, especially when it comes to stopping the run. As he continues to work hard in Training Camp, we’ll see where he ends up on the Broncos roster both in your Franchise Mode save and in real life.
Other Major Ratings Storylines, Featuring The Ravens
Strictly from the Madden NFL ratings, Lamar Jackson is far from the 69th best player in the league.
Carried by his position-leading speed rating (95), he is the third best Quarterback in the game, the top Scrambling QB overall, and is tied for 32nd best with the likes of other X-Factor athletes. The Ravens Flock can fly high into their next debate about their QB’s abilities well before Week 1, but they also may want to throw in how Mark Andrews and King Derrick Henry stack up as a top-five Tight End and top-ten Running Back respectively.
Here are some of the other top teams and what their ratings add to the pre-season conversations:
New Patriots Dynasty Incoming?
The Patriots have the tools to be a top team in the NFL, entering the Madden NFL 27 season as a top-five team.
Their Super Bowl run earned them a +2 OVR Point boost since last year at launch, good for fourth among team rating risers. In his sophomore season, Drake Maye nearly followed the path of the G.O.A.T.; this year, he enters Madden NFL 27 as the 6th highest rated Quarterback with a brand-new option in WR A.J. Brown, who maintains his final rating from Madden NFL 26’s Super Bowl Update.
Hail To The Chiefs
Elsewhere in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs sit among the top-ten overall teams with some serious strength on both lines. Center Creed Humphrey, Defensive Tackle Chris Jones, and Right Guard Trey Smith all rate above 90 OVR thanks to their serious strength. But if you’re looking for another definition of power, look no further than Left Guard Kingsley Suamataia.
Go beyond Suamataia’s 89 Strength stat, and you’ll find his cannon arm with 78 Throw Power. There’s a guy named Patrick Mahomes who rounds out the top-five QBs that can handle usual passing duties, but in a pinch, maybe Suamataia can sling one during your virtual season…
Dem Boys On All Sides Of The Ball

While we already detailed the Cowboys’ new look Defense, their Offense contains familiar top-10 names in CeeDee Lamb (93 OVR) and Dak Prescott (91 OVR). Dak’s backup Joe Milton clocks in with 99 Throw Power, the highest in the game for the second year in a row, while Lamb’s receiving roommate KaVontae Turpin is the fastest Cowboy with a blistering 97 Speed.
And also, how ‘bout them Cowboys’ #1 Special Teams unit? Brandon Aubrey is the best kicker in the game with the second-highest Kick Accuracy rating (under new Falcon Nick Folk), as well as the best Kick Power at a 99 max rating. That Power is tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Cam Little, who definitely earned it after breaking the NFL record with a 68-yarder this past season… and nailing the second-longest field goal later in the year as well.
Fly Eagles Fly

The Cowboys’ NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles return Lane Johnson via contract extension; he’s coming off the 99 Club this year, but still maintains an admirable 97 OVR Rating with perfect Awareness and phenomenal Blocking attributes for the Run and Pass game. That’ll give last year’s cover athlete Saquon Barkley plenty of room to run with, as he returns at 92 OVR with Acceleration, Speed, Agility, and Carrying all well within the 90’s.
If you really want to show your brotherly love, however, pull out this fact: among all 300+ lb players, Rookie Uar Bernard has the fastest Speed Rating at 84. Go ahead and search his 40-yard combine time, then don’t think too hard about being on the receiving end of him getting through your offensive line.
We could go on about some other fun superlatives… The Bills Tyler Bass is our fastest Kicker with an 85 Speed rating, as we never forget him chasing down Jalen Reagor. Kyle Jusczczyk is once again our top rated Fullback, maintaining that status ever since he joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. And we have gone this long without mentioning our cover athlete Caleb Williams, a top-two Quarterback in Break Sack and Throw on the Run Ratings given his ability to “fight on” and finish plays…
But we’ll leave that up to you and the community to keep all those conversations, and more, going long before the Super Bowl Rematch leads Week 1.
