Frozen Legends 

Tony Romo (QB - 96 OVR)

You know what I’d love? Tony Romo analyzing and predicting the plays of Tony Romo. Maybe that could happen one day. In the meantime, MUT players are graced with this fantastic Romo legend item. In the same week as Michael Irvin, too, may I add! That Cowboys theme team is looking preeeeeetty decent. The four-time Pro Bowler and Eastern Illinois product proved doubters wrong. He wasn’t even invited to the NFL Combine initially, then he went undrafted in 2003. Romo was a backup for three seasons before earning his shot and he never looked back. He went on to throw for more than 34,000 yards and a career 97.1 passer rating. 

This Romo legend item is the quintessential pocket passer and immediately one of the most effective quarterbacks in MUT. The 95 throw power and 94 accuracies across the board are phenomenal. Maybe the 82 speed won’t be running read options any time soon, but it’s certainly enough to demand defensive attention and evade some pressure. 

Brian Dawkins (FS - 96 OVR)

A man in his football prime around the time I was growing up, I remember Dawkins fondly. He was a perennial first round pick in OG Madden franchise modes. He was equally fear-instilling as an open-field tackler as he was a ballhawk. Dawkins could do it all. In 16 NFL seasons with the Eagles and Broncos, Dawkins totaled 34 interceptions and 32 forced fumbles. Per Pro Football Reference, Dawkins is one of three players in NFL history to total both 30+ interceptions and 30+ forced fumbles. With those numbers and nine Pro Bowls under his belt, Dawkins earned his Hall of Fame induction in spades.

Given his incredible resume, this item is exactly what you’re expecting. Except, wait a second, hold up, is that a … 95 SPEED?! Normalize giving 95 speeds to players who also have 96 hit powers! Just kidding, don’t normalize that, I will never complete another pass ever. This item is loaded and will absolutely torment your opponents.

TJ’s Top Five: The Coldest

It’s Zero Chill season, which means we’re getting some downright cold items. These items are statement items, if not the best they’re near the top, but they’re bound to make an impact on the virtual gridiron.

5) Cam Newton 

“Number one’s the mike!!!” is a sentence I surely never expected to write. This Cam Newton linebacker item is more well-rounded than an icy snowball. The kind that’s a little wet, well-shaped and densely packed together… because when it hits ya, it’s gonna hurt. This item has an 88 hit power and 89 speed, both extremely desirable numbers for a middle linebacker. He’s also bringing an 83 zone coverage to the table, and he’s six-foot-five, meaning he should have no trouble covering opposing tight ends.  

4) Michael Irvin

We were bound to get a standout item from The Playmaker. This Irvin card is the consummate MUT receiver with impressive attributes all across the board. It’s as strong a 95 overall as there is. Run him on any route against any coverage at any part of the field and you have a chance to make something special happen. Catch me opening virtual packs until my virtual fingertips are virtually bloody trying to snag this item. 

3) Quandre Diggs

This item is cold because anyone Diggs hits is turning blue. With a 92 speed and 95 hit power, this Diggs item is a virtual slingshot. If I’m on offense, I’m going nowhere near Quandre Diggs. Only problem is that it's nearly impossible. With a 90 man coverage and 95 zone coverage, he’s all over the field. The versatility is endless too, if I’m blessed with this item it’s going at every position on the field. 

2) Deebo Samuel

This item is colder than ice because it’s our introduction to running back Deebo. Not only are we getting a running back with a 92 speed, 93 acceleration and an 83 break tackle, we’re getting a bonafide stud receiver out of the backfield. If you have Samuel on your fantasy team this year, you’re lucky, but if you have this item on your MUT squad, you might be even luckier. 

1) Justin Fields

Now this is what I call a COLD item! I’d even call it another unicorn item. With a 92 speed, this Fields item can absolutely torch defenses on the ground. Fields is liable to escape edge rusher contains, quarterback spies and so much more. However, the throwing attributes attached to this item are insane. A 93 throw power and 91 deep accuracy? Come on!
