Celebrating Matt Bilbey
The below announcement was shared today with Electronic Arts employees by our CEO Andrew Wilson.
Team,
I’m writing today to share that after 27 amazing years, Matt Bilbey has made the decision to step away from Electronic Arts and move on to new adventures.
Matt’s story is one of an 18 year-old who followed his love for sport and games. Growing up in England, football was life for Matt, and he sought out an opportunity to bring his passions together. He took a summer job working in sales for EA at our London office, where he also got to test our new FIFA titles. Through a series of roles in marketing, development, operations, and executive leadership, Matt’s had a truly incredible career of amazing accomplishments at Electronic Arts.
Matt and I have stood side-by-side for much of the last two decades. For many years, we worked together in the leadership team at EA Canada. Matt was the marketing leader for FIFA when we recognized the potential for the franchise and set bold plans for transformation. We guided our teams through challenges and achieved some incredible milestones. Matt then took the leap to run our FIFA development teams, and then onto leading multiple studios around the world, including EA Vancouver. His journey has been an inspiration to many as they grow their careers at EA.
More recently, we’ve worked together driving critical growth opportunities for our company. Matt’s leadership of our strategic initiatives has helped us reach more players across more platforms, content and geographies. EAX relaunched our PC store this year and took our subscription to more platforms, our Asia business is expanding, Competitive Gaming just had an award-winning year, and EA Partners & EA Originals have just launched two great games with more in the pipeline. Matt’s team has also led a successful and smooth onboarding of Codemasters into our EA family as we set out to grow our combined leadership in racing.
Through the challenges and the celebrations, from the expected to the unexpected, Matt has stood by so many of us, and we’ve all been the better for it. Thank you, Matt, for being an incredible leader, colleague, and friend.
As Matt steps away later in June, the teams reporting to him will move into Chris Bruzzo and Laura Miele’s organizations. As we work through these transitions, Matt will also continue to work on a few key projects in a consulting capacity through the end of the year.
On behalf of everyone at Electronic Arts, we are grateful to Matt for the impact he’s had on our team. While we’re sad to see him go after an amazing career with us, we’re excited to wish him the best in his next chapter.
Andrew
