For Madden NFL 21, we're partnering with Sony and Microsoft to offer you free game upgrades* to the next generation consoles, meaning that you won't need to buy Madden NFL 21 twice to upgrade your copy of the game from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S.

When is the next generation version of Madden NFL 21 available?

On December 4, the next generation version of Madden NFL 21 will be available worldwide on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. More information to be shared on next generation features in the coming weeks.

What is Dual Entitlement?

Dual Entitlement enables you to upgrade your copy of Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, when the game launches on next generation consoles, for free.* See offer details for specific instructions.

Do I have to purchase Madden NFL 21 digitally to receive the free upgrade?

The physical copy of Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One also includes your entitlement to download and play the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X version of the game. So you'll still be able to upgrade for free* via Dual Entitlement if you purchase a next generation console with a disc drive.

If you intend to buy a discless next generation console (PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, or Xbox Series S), you can purchase Madden NFL 21 digitally on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and you will receive your upgrade upon logging into your new console with the SAME account information. You must upgrade from Xbox One to Xbox Series S or from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 Digital to receive the upgrade.

If you buy a physical copy of Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and upgrade to a discless PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S, you will need to contact EA support at help.ea.com to validate your purchase using your account information to receive your free* upgrade.

Will my content on PlayStation 4 transfer to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S?

Your acquired content in Ultimate Team and your progress in The Yard will transfer. Push your progress from Franchise and Face of the Franchise to next gen consoles to continue your Next Level NFL journey.** Read more below on the transfer details for each mode.

Madden Ultimate Team Transfer Details

With co-existence, any change in PlayStation 4 will show up in PlayStation 5, and any change in Xbox One will also show up or Xbox Series X|S. Your acquired content in Ultimate Team including Madden Points, binder content, coins, training, Ultimate Challenges, Missions, etc. will transfer.

Progress in Competitive Modes Will Not Transfer

If you begin progress in Weekend League on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, then your progress is locked to previous generation consoles until you complete the event. If you begin progress in Weekend League on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, then your progress is locked to next generation until you complete the event. Same goes for Solo Battles. To put it simply, competitive leaderboards are separated by generation. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S gameplay cannot qualify for the Madden NFL 21 Championship Series.

Franchise Mode Transfer Details

You can export multiple Franchise saves, for Classic and Face of the Franchise, to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. You will still have your previous generation console save and can continue progress there, but if you want that to carry over any new previous generation progress it would be considered a new next gen import save. Each previous generation import would be a new next generation save. The export does happen directly from previous generation to next generation, with no external file or companion app needed. You can transfer online Franchise and Face of the Franchise (online-only mode). You cannot transfer offline classic Franchise.

The Yard Transfer Details

Your progress in The Yard including your Avatar, gear, and Madden Rank will transfer.

How does the Dual Entitlement upgrade work on next generation consoles?

If you buy a physical copy of Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you'll be able to download and play Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store at no extra cost once the game releases.

If you buy a digital copy of Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, your digital copy of Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will be bundled with the PlayStation 4/Xbox One copy, and you'll be able to download and play Madden NFL 21 from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store at no extra cost once it releases later this year.

If you buy a physical copy of Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and upgrade to a discless PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S, you will need to contact EA support at help.ea.com to validate your purchase using your account information to receive your free* upgrade.

Once I upgrade can I go back to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One?

Progress in Madden Ultimate Team and other modes may not transfer. Please check back on December 4, 2020 for more information.

What if I upgrade from PlayStation 4 to Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox One to PlayStation 5?

The free* Dual Entitlement upgrade is only available when you upgrade on the same console system, i.e. from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S.

Will my progress transfer if I go from PlayStation 4 to Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox One to PlayStation 5?

No, progress and content in Madden NFL 21 can only transfer between consoles from the same manufacturer, i.e. between a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, or between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Will I need a disc to play on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X?

Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will be a digital version of the game which you'll be able to download once the game launches later this year. If you buy a physical copy of Madden NFL 21, you'll need the disc to be inserted into your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X to be able to launch Madden NFL 21 on those consoles. If you intend to buy a discless next generation console (PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, or Xbox Series S), you can purchase Madden NFL 21 digitally on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and you will receive your upgrade upon logging into your new console with the SAME account information.
