Player Ratings Update: Conference Championship

See how huge performances from stars like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have affected their Madden ratings.

Madden NFL 21

We couldn’t have written a more storybook ending to the NFL season. The matchup is set: Tom Brady and his Buccaneers will go head-to-head against Patrick Mahomes and the defending champion Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. Brady, the undisputable GOAT quarterback in the NFL will make his 10th-career appearance in the big game, which is just ridiculous. And Mahomes will look to achieve back-to-back Super Bowl victories. No matter how you look at it, it’s going to be one for the books. But let’s get down to business.

Epic runs, crazy catches, and incredible plays abounded throughout the Conference Championship round. And the Madden Ratings Adjustor team is working hard to tweak, refine, and polish ratings across the league based on real-world performances. Let’s take a look and see who’s up in the ranks and who’s down. Access the full Madden NFL 21 Player Ratings Database HERE

Conference Championship: Who’s Up

Tom Brady | QB | Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When this season kicked off, Tom Brady had a 90 OVR in Madden NFL 21, and has inched his way up in the ranks with consistently great performances all year. Now that he’s led his team to Super Bowl 55, he’s getting bumped up one more point to a 96 OVR ahead of the big game, despite throwing three interceptions against the Packers (he also had three touchdown passes and 280 yards). Nobody’s ever done it like Brady. His success over the last two decades and the fact that he’s now landed a Super Bowl berth with a new team is a testament to his unparalleled skill under center.

Jason Pierre-Paul | ROLB | Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers defense is stacked with talent, and veteran Jason Pierre-Paul posted two sacks against the Packers last weekend. He’ll see an +1 OVR increase this week thanks to bumps in Speed, Acceleration, Awareness, Power Moves, and Play Recognition ratings ahead of Super Bowl Sunday.

Shaquil Barrett | LOLB | Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Another defensive veteran on Tampa Bay was active in the Packers backfield last weekend, as Shaquil Barrett posted three sacks and hit the QB four times. His OVR will see a +1 increase to an 88 OVR ahead of the Super Bowl, driven by bumps in Awareness, Tackling, Power Moves, Finesse Moves, and Play Recognition ratings.

Conference Championship: Who’s Down

Aaron Rodgers | QB | Green Bay Packers

From a statistical standpoint, Aaron Rodgers had a better game that Tom Brady did last weekend. Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, one interception, and totaled 346 yards. But that wasn’t enough to emerge victorious and advance to the Super Bowl. Rodgers had an unbelievable, MVP-worthy season (nobody’s arguing that). But he did take the loss to Brady and the Bucs, and for that reason, the Madden Ratings Adjustor team is ticking one point off his OVR rating to end the year.

Kevin King | CB | Green Bay Packers

Kevin King got beat at the end of the first half on a long TD pass from Tom Brady to … Scotty Miller. Of all the weapons Tampa Bay has in it’s offense, King let Scotty Miller get behind him. He also committed a holding penalty late in the fourth quarter, which resulted in a first down and helped the Buccaneers seal the game (not that it would’ve changed the outcome, but it was still a momentum breaker for Green Bay). Anyway, King is getting a -2 to his OVR to end the season at 74 OVR.
