The Next Killer App on Mobile? Sports Games

2014-10-28

FIFA 15 Ultimate Team hits #1 on the Apple App Store free chart in 90 countries.

Last month we celebrated the beautiful game with football fans around the world, as EA SPORTS™ released FIFA 15 on consoles, and FIFA 15 Ultimate Team™ for mobile devices.

FIFA launching on consoles is always an exciting moment for the industry, but I wanted to take a moment to highlight the incredible response we’ve seen for FIFA Ultimate Team, Madden NFL Mobile, and other EA SPORTS titles on smartphones and tablets.

Since its release, FIFA 15 Ultimate Team has reached the #1 spot in the Apple AppStoreSM Free Chart in 90 countries, charting above mainstays like Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter.

You spoke, and we listened - delivering a game that goes even deeper with the fan-favorite Ultimate Team mode. And we’re excited to see that in just a few weeks, more than 530 million matches have been played, and nearly 100 million hours logged in FIFA 15 Ultimate Team on mobile around the world.

The response to Madden NFL Mobile has been strong as well. In the first month, the game has been downloaded on Android twice as many times versus last year's version.

And this reflects the incredible appetite that we’ve seen for EA SPORTS games on mobile devices. EA SPORTS titles have been downloaded 100 million times in the past 12 months, and more than 40 million fans log in to play every month – a 250% increase over last year.

We’re thrilled and humbled by the response EA SPORTS games for mobile have received so far this year, and we believe sports are steadily becoming a killer app for mobile gaming. We strive every day to deliver the authenticity, innovation, and accessibility our fans demand, and have many more exciting things to share in the months ahead.
