Whenever a world-renowned musician makes their way through Canada, they usually make a stop in Vancouver. That’s because the city’s major arenas, Rogers Centre, BC Place and the Pacific Coliseum, are all ideal venues for music’s biggest acts. But there are also great smaller venues in the city, like the Commodore Ballroom and the Orpheum. Both are located on Granville Street, which also houses a large number of clubs and lounges that offer a number of different music options. (Upcoming shows at Commodore Ballroom and additional info on the Orpheum)
Vancouver is also a great place to discover new music. A number of different musicians, from high-profile mega-acts to future stars have at one time or another called Vancouver home. Artists like Grimes, 54-40, Hey Ocean!, Japanadroids, Spirit of the West, Sarah McLachlan and Tegan and Sara have their roots in the Vancouver music scene.
Fans of the theatre and film can enjoy performances at a number of different locations including the Vancouver Playhouse, Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the International Film Centre, all located in different locations in Downtown. Since 1930, the Stanley Theatre in the South Granville neighborhood has been a popular destination for the arts. There are also a number of theatres located on Granville Island including Performance Works and the Arts Club Theatre Company.
