In the more traditional sense, defensive tackles are tasked with stopping the ground game by plugging up running lanes and not giving up ground to push from the O-line.
The top five in this position is a familiar bunch, consisting of the same players in last season’s top DTs. But there’s one addition to the group due to a tie in OVR.
Though that may not be the most exciting tease, don’t let anything keep you from trembling at the lane crunchers that make up the top five DTs in Madden NFL 19.
1. Damon Harrison Sr., New York Giants
With a 62 Speed, Harrison isn’t exactly chasing anyone down. That said, he’s essentially the best run stopper in the game. A 93 Strength and a 94 tackle (highest at this position), means Harrison will bring down anything within reach. And though he may lack the Speed that most players prefer on the attack, his best-in-class 96 Block Shedding ensures he still has the potential to break through the O-line.
2. Ndamukong Suh, Los Angeles Rams
Oh, holy hell. Someone put Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh on the same defensive line. He’s wearing a different uniform, but just like last season, Suh is an absolute menace on the defensive front. He remains the strongest player in Madden with a 98 Strength. Suh also has a 90 Hit Power, the best among DTs.
3. Fletcher Cox, Philadelphia Eagles
News flash, the Eagles are quite good at this football thing. Cox is the powerhouse leading Philly’s defensive front. One of the more balanced DTs in Madden 19, Cox matches a 92 Strength with an 80 Speed, the fastest of the top five. His Power Move of 93 also is on top of this list.
4. Geno Atkins, Cincinnati Bengals
Atkins has long been the wall of the Bengals’ D-line. A physical beast, Atkins’ 90 Strength is a compliment to his Power Move, which matches Cox’s 93. His Speed of 78 is also a close second to the Eagles’ top power rusher.
5. (Two-way tie)
Linval Joseph, Minnesota Vikings
At a 97 Strength, Joseph is the only player on this list that comes close to matching Suh’s power. A massive player with quality Strength, but slower Speed with 68, Joseph is less about the attack and more about plugging up running lanes.
Gerald McCoy, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Following much of the same line as Joseph, McCoy remains one of Madden’s most effective run stoppers. The added benefit for McCoy is his 85 Hit Power, which is only topped by Ndamukong Suh on this list.
